Thaedros Subclasses

Bard: College of Echoes

Bards who weave songs from the resonance of memory itself, drawing on the past to shape the present.

Bard: College of Echoes

Bards of the College of Echoes perform songs that resonate with memory and history. Their music reaches into the past, drawing forth fragments of what once was to influence what is now. They are chroniclers and seers, using sound and story to awaken dormant memories in places, objects, and even the minds of those who listen. In Thaedros, their talents prove especially potent when attuned to eldrite's resonant frequencies, but their art transcends any single source of power.

Subclass Features

Level 3: Resonant Knowledge

Your performances tap into the echoes of memory embedded in the world around you.

Bonus Proficiencies: You gain proficiency in History and one skill of your choice from Arcana, Investigation, or Perception.

Songs of Remembrance: You always have the Identify and Speak with Dead spells prepared. They count as Bard spells for you and don't count against the number of spells you can prepare.

Memory's Echo: When you cast Speak with Dead, you can target an object that is at least 100 years old instead of a corpse. The object "remembers" and can answer questions about events it witnessed, though its perspective is limited to what it could perceive. Once you use this feature, you can't do so again until you finish a Long Rest.

Level 6: Harmonic Resonance

Your music amplifies the latent echoes within all things, strengthening your allies' connection to their own potential.

Resonant Performance: When you grant a Bardic Inspiration die to a creature, you can expend a spell slot to enhance it. The creature can add your Charisma modifier (minimum of +1) to the result when they roll the Bardic Inspiration die.

Echo Strike: When a creature uses your Bardic Inspiration die on an attack roll and hits, you can use your reaction to cause the attack to echo. The attack deals additional force damage equal to one roll of your Bardic Inspiration die. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.

Level 10: Reverberating Performance

Your performances linger in the air, creating echoes that continue to aid your allies even after the song ends.

Echoing Inspiration: Whenever you grant a Bardic Inspiration die to a creature, the inspiration echoes. If the creature uses the die and succeeds on the roll, you can immediately grant a Bardic Inspiration die to a different creature within 60 feet of you that can hear you (no action required). This doesn't expend one of your uses of Bardic Inspiration.

Temporal Refrain: As a bonus action, you can perform a haunting melody that reaches backward through time. Choose one creature you can see within 60 feet. That creature can immediately reroll one attack roll, ability check, or saving throw they made since the end of your last turn, using the new result. Once you use this feature, you can't do so again until you finish a Short or Long Rest.

Level 14: Symphony of Ages

Your mastery over resonance allows you to draw forth powerful echoes from the fabric of history itself.

Borrowed Moment: As an action, you perform a song that causes reality to echo with a moment from the past. Choose one of the following effects:

  • Echo of Victory: You and up to five allies within 60 feet gain temporary hit points equal to your Bard level + your Charisma modifier. While a creature has these temporary hit points, they add your Bardic Inspiration die to their damage rolls (without expending the die).
  • Echo of Escape: You and up to five willing creatures within 60 feet teleport up to 60 feet to unoccupied spaces you can see, as you briefly step into a memory of this location from the past.
  • Echo of Knowledge: You gain perfect recall of any information you've learned in the past 7 days, and you can cast Legend Lore without expending a spell slot or material components, receiving the information instantly rather than over time.

Once you use this feature, you can't do so again until you finish a Long Rest. You can expend a 5th-level or higher spell slot to use this feature again before finishing a Long Rest.
