People of Thaedros

Dragonborn

Curious explorers and collectors seeking knowledge across Thaedros, possibly connected to an ancient draconic heritage.

Dragonborn

Unlike many of the other races that fled Encara, the Dragonborn do not trace their lineage to a known progenitor. There were no dragons on Encara—at least, not for so long that they had become little more than myth. The Felaari, with their ancestral memory, claim to recall dragons in some distant, half-remembered past, but even to their lorekeepers, those recollections feel more like dreams than history. If the Dragonborn have any true ancestral connection to dragons, it has long been forgotten.

What was never forgotten, however, was their relentless curiosity. The Dragonborn of Encara were explorers, travelers, and collectors above all else. While they did establish villages, towns, and even a few grand cities in the nation of Althanost, it was rare to find one Dragonborn in the same place for long. They journeyed across every corner of Encara—and beyond, venturing into the planes in search of knowledge, relics, and experiences. The greatest museums and archives of Encara were housed in Althanost, and the second-greatest were all curated, supplied, or influenced by Dragonborn. They did not merely wish to exist in the world; they wished to understand it, catalog it, and preserve it for those who came after.

Since the Diaspora, they have scattered even further across Thaedros. Though they mourn the loss of Althanost, no true homeland has yet emerged to take its place, and it is unclear if one ever will. They are found in every reach of the new world—some roaming alone, some mapping the land alongside the Yldanian Surveyor's Guild, and others lending their talents to the Kaldjari Imperium. Yet even amid this dispersal, a quiet purpose seems to linger in their wanderings. Some Dragonborn speak in hushed tones of a belief that their ancestors might have arrived in Thaedros long before the Multitude devoured Encara. Whether this is truth, speculation, or mere wishful thinking remains unknown, but one thing is certain—if dragons exist in Thaedros, it is the Dragonborn who will find them first.

Dragonborn Lineages

Chromatic Dragonborn

Often the most physically inclined, honing their bodies as much as their minds, seeking mastery over themselves and the world.

Metallic Dragonborn

Drawn to matters of faith, tradition, and duty. Many become paladins, clerics, or druids with pragmatic wisdom.

Gem Dragonborn

For them, magic is as natural as breathing. They are the archivists, enchanters, and keepers of stories.
